This was the early evening of Sunday, 23rd May 2019, when we reached Everest Basecamp, more popularly known as EBC in the trekking community, and I believe this will remain intact in our memories for a very long time.
How I touched the base of Mount Everest
I had the privilege of trekking to the Everest Base Camp. It was an experience of a lifetime, and I am excited to share my journey with all of you.
Trekking to the base of Mount Everest was a dream that I had nurtured for a long time. As a marathoner and mountaineering enthusiast, I was always fascinated by the challenge and beauty of the Himalayas. When I finally got the opportunity to embark on this journey, I was thrilled and nervous at the same time.
The trek started with a flight from New Delhi to Lukla, which is a small town in the Himalayan region of Nepal. The flight was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life, as the plane navigated through the challenging terrain and landed on the short runway at Lukla airport.
From Lukla, the trek passed through several small villages and rest stops, such as Phakding and Namche Bazaar. These stops provided us with the much-needed respite and a chance to experience the local culture and hospitality.
As we gained altitude, the trek became more challenging, and I had to adjust my pace and energy levels to cope with the thin air. The final stretch of the trek was the most challenging, with steep inclines, rocky terrain, and glaciers. It was a true test of my mountaineering skills, but I was determined to reach the base of the world's highest mountain.
Finally, after several days of trekking, I reached the Everest Base Camp. The feeling of touching the base of Mount Everest was surreal, and I was overcome with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude. The base camp was bustling with activity, as mountaineers from around the world prepared to climb the highest peak in the world.
I spent some time at the base camp, soaking in the beauty of the Himalayas and mingling with other trekkers. I also visited the nearby Khumbu Icefall, which was a humbling and awe-inspiring experience.
The journey back to Lukla was equally challenging, as I had to descend from the high altitude. However, the memories of the trek and the support of my team kept me going, and I completed the trek successfully.
The journey to the Everest Base Camp taught me valuable lessons about resilience, humility, and respect for nature. It was an experience that pushed me beyond my limits and helped me grow as a person.
I hope my journey inspires others to pursue their dreams and push themselves beyond their limits. The mountains are a beautiful and powerful force, and I feel blessed to have experienced their grandeur.
